We aren’t necessarily looking to diagnose or treat disease, rather identify the sometimes subtle bio-chemical shifts our body makes to indicate potential for illness. Unlike conventional medicine, functional medicine is about correcting underlying imbalances BEFORE they progress to disease. At Wild Roots Health & Wellness, we take a functional approach to lab testing — meaning our goal is not to diagnose or treat disease, but to uncover subtle imbalances that may be keeping you from feeling your best.
A Basic Blood Panel
A basic blood panel gives us a broad overview of how key systems in your body are functioning.
We look at markers such as:
- Complete Blood Count (CBC): reflects oxygen-carrying capacity, immune activity, and overall vitality.
- Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP): provides insight into liver and kidney function, electrolytes, and blood sugar regulation.
- Lipid panel and thyroid markers: help us understand metabolism, energy, and hormone balance.
- Even though this is a “basic” thyroid panel, TSH is not enough. We also include Total T4, Free T4 and Free T3 for an accurate baseline thyroid assessment.
- Inflammation, Methylation & Insulin Resistance insights: (C-Reactive Protein, hs + Homocysteine + Insulin + Hemoglobin A1c + Fibrinogen Activity) oxidative stress runs rampant these days and can lead to increased cardiovascular risk, poor blood sugar control, impaired detoxification and even more devastating issues. Methylation issues can silently drive hormone imbalance, fatigue and contribute to chronic inflammation and blood sugar roller coasters
The GI-MAP Test
In addition to traditional bloodwork, we include a GI-MAP (Gastrointestinal Microbial Assay Plus) stool test. This advanced functional lab analyzes the DNA of gut microbes—both beneficial and harmful—to assess digestion, inflammation, and the overall balance of the microbiome. Because gut health influences hormones, immune function, and even mood, this test offers a deeper look at root-cause connections that standard panels can’t reveal.
Why We Use Functional Ranges to Evaluate Results with ALL Wellness Panels
Traditional labs use broad reference ranges designed to identify overt disease. Functional medicine looks at narrower “optimal” ranges — where the body is balanced, resilient, and functioning at it’s best. By evaluating patterns that fall within “normal” but outside “optimal,” we can identify early trends toward dysfunction and make targeted lifestyle, nutrition, or supplement recommendations to restore balance.
This approach is not about diagnosing or replacing medical care — it’s about using data to optimize health, support vitality, and prevent imbalance before disease develops.
*IMPORTANT: I ask that you please complete all lab work and test kits within a week of receiving your orders so we can get results back in a timely manner. It takes about 2 weeks to process results. Test kits for GI map and DUTCH will be mailed directly to your home with a prepaid return FedEx mailer. Any bloodwork can be completed at a Lab Corp Facility Near you.
After ALL results are back, I will analyze them and schedule a 90 minute virtual meeting to discuss your unique markers and develop a game plan.

This complete panel includes all bloodwork and GI Map stool testing found in the Basic Panel with the addition of a more advanced Thyroid Panel.
- The Advanced thyroid panel includes: TSH, Total T4, Free T4, Free T3, Reverse T3, Total T3, T3 Uptake, TPO antibodies, and Thyroglobulin antibodies.
*This panel also includes a DUTCH (Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones) test. The DUTCH test is THE premier hormone test, offering a comprehensive analysis of sex hormones, cortisol levels, and their metabolites. It also includes markers for nutritional deficiencies, oxidative stress, gut health, melatonin, and more.
The DUTCH test combined with the GI Map is a powerful 1-2-PUNCH to get to the root cause of symptoms or what we like to call; body messages such as:
- Mood swings, brain fog, headaches, fatigue, weight gain, PMS, PMDD, ADD & ADHD, anxiety, depression, bloating, inflammation, and immune dysfunction, joint pain, cyclical migraines and more. . . These tests are invaluable in helping guide personalized healing strategies.

All testing will be provided via DHA Laboratory. DHA Lab offers a patient direct program that partners with you with a authorizing physician. As your health coach, we are not licensed medical providers nor do we claim to be. However we do believe all individuals should have the freedom and choice to access to wellness labs. DHA Lab allows us to work together to figure out which functional labs work best for you. All test order requisitions are conveniently sent to your email inbox so you can print and complete the blood draw portion at a LabCorp facility near you. The GI Map is a stool test and can be collected in the privacy and comfort of your own home. A collection kit with detailed instructions will be mailed to your home with a re-paid return mailing box. The DUTCH test is a urine and saliva collection. This test is also done in the privacy and comfort of your own home. A detailed yet easy to understand test kit will be mailed directly to your home along with instructions and a pre-paid envelope for returning all samples. It does take approximately 2-3 weeks for results to be returned so please keep this in mind and plan to complete testing kits as soon as possible.
*Both panels include ONE 90 minute summary session (via virtual conferencing) . We will discuss your results, being very careful to NEVER treat labs but ALWAYS correlate results with your any symptoms. Remember: Your lived experience matters most! Then, we discuss options for moving forward with coaching AND/OR pursuing further evaluation or treatment with your current Health Care Provider. If desired, I will provided you with a written letter, summarizing my coaching points to share with your doctor with the goal of partnering with your health team and helping you advocate for your health needs.
